Our second 𝐸𝓁𝑒𝒸𝓉𝓇𝑜𝒞𝒾𝓉𝒾𝑒𝓈 event explored Virtual Reality, peaceful online spaces and interactivity with our net.artist in residence, Edison Chen and critically acclaimed VR wiz Dr. Josh Harle.
Edison Chen is a new media artist who has worked primarily in public spaces. He is interested in emerging technology and the potential of interactive mediums to explore human behaviour and agency. His works revolve around themes of play, connectivity and collective-ness. His works so far have spanned various mediums, having played with Virtual Reality, public urban screens, light sculptures and inflatables. Edison has most notably exhibited for Vivid Sydney in 2016 and 2018.
Edison's exhibition, "Everything is going to be o-KOI” (o-KOI) is a response to the presence of dread that grows as we head towards the future. o-KOI seeks to quell some of this by providing a place of connection and reflection. Within a virtual koi pond people are able to read and submit messages of hope which are then stored within personalised koi fish.
Dr. Josh Harle is a multidisciplinary researcher, educator, and new media artist. His work investigates the virtual spaces generated by emerging technologies, and our encounters and experiences within them. Dr Harle is a Visiting Fellow at UNSW Art and Design, and Director of the Tactical Space Lab.
